Answer:The johnson county school district board of trustees votes annually to allocate up to 1 mil of funding for the johnson COunty recreation district.

How did the Johnson County Rrecreation District Get Started?


Answer:In 2006 a committee of community members researched the feasibility of forming a Johnson County Recreation district. A proposal was presented to the johnson County School district March 13, 2006. the original mission of the committee was to facilitate quality recreational and leisure services at an affordable price to improve the quality of life for all residents of johnson county.

The committee presented a number of reasons why recreation is important to a community; these included, to encourage cooperative and positive behaviors in youth, to promote community wellness and to provide additional economic opportunities in the county. The Johnson County School District has voted to allocate a partial mill to the Johnson County Recreation District since 2006. In 2009, the Johnson County School District voted to allocate 1/2 mill to the Johnson County Recreation District. 2006 committee members included, Dr. Grace Gosar, Tim Kirven, Kate Harness, Greg Smith, Lisa Griffith, Toni Cervenka, and Dave Harness.
